Sven Mellen Returns

Ed O’Brien, historian and re-enactor from Harvard, reprises his roll of Sven Mellen – first unveiled during the 2017 unveiling of the Waterways and Getaways: Resort Life in McHenry County exhibit at the McHenry County Historical Museum – at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 20, in the Harvard Diggins Library, 900 E McKinley St, Harvard,  

During the first three decades of the 1900s, the Fox Lake community featured many locations for family getaways from Chicago’s hot summers. In 1902, Sven Mellin opened a resort in the Fox Lake and Pistakee Lake region. The Bald Knob Resort offered a unique combination of “Good Food, Good Beer, Good Friends, and Good Times”. Learn what it was like to spend a weekend at the Bald Knob Resort during the 1920s with returning guest speaker Ed O’Brien. Free and open to the public.
