In a closely contessted affair Aug. 24, the McHenry County "Independants" edged the Lake County Athletics, 11-10,  on the verdant fields of Central Park in Grayslake.. The game was unusual in several ways (like that is something new), not the least of which was two apologies. Hurler Jeff "Mighty Moa" Purtell apologized after striking an Athletics' batter THREE times with a pitched ball. Barrister Dave Oberg instructed the batter to be quicker next time. Also shortstop Don "Shooter" Wickersham apologized after inexplicably stopping while running between the first- and second-base bags. Too much ice in the ice wagon, I guess.

Thanks to everyone who came out to cheer on their beloved "Club Nine" and buy a box of Cracker Jack. The annual balloon festival followed.
